Why you will love this recipe

15-minute dinner: this is one of the fastest pasta recipes you can get to the dinner table, apart from my olive oil pasta with sundried tomatoes recipe. It is a 10-minute one.

Economical: Let us face it: the economy is doing the most now and fresh salmon is expensive. It is a comfort to know that this canned salmon pasta recipe costs less than $10 / £7 and feeds up to 4 people with leftovers.

Convenient: Canned foods are some of the most convenient ingredients you can use in cooking. They have a long shelf life, making it easy always to have them on hand whenever you need to whip up a quick meal.

Protein-packed dinner: Because it is canned salmon, it doesn’t take away from all the nutrients it still provides. It is a rich source of protein and Omega-3 fatty acids, making it a healthy addition to your dinner plate.

How to make canned salmon pasta

Boil the pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil, add spaghetti and cook until al dente. Reserve about 1 cup of pasta water to use for later. In the meantime, make the tomato sauce.

Place a shallow skillet on medium-high heat, add olive oil, and heat until hot. Add chopped onions and saute until soft, translucent and fragrant. Add chopped garlic and cook for 30 seconds, stirring it occasionally so it doesn’t burn.

Carefully pour the chopped tomatoes into the sauteed aromatic, add Italian seasoning, salt and black pepper and stir to combine. Reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Stir it occasionally so it doesn’t dry up or stick to the bottom of the pan.

Add half a cup of pasta water and grated parmesan cheese to the tomato sauce and stir to combine.  Cook until the cheese is fully melted.

Drain and add the canned salmon to the sauce (debone the salmon if you prefer). Break the salmon into smaller chunks with a ladle and stir to combine until all the ingredients are well combined. Simmer for 2 minutes. Check for salt and pepper and adjust accordingly.

Add the drained pasta and gently stir or toss to combine. If you prefer a thinner sauce, add more reserved pasta water until you reach your desired consistency.
