Why this air fryer shrimp recipe is so good
- It uses a few ingredients and cooks for 11 minutes. With prep, you can have dinner on the table in under 20 minutes. You can even reduce the prep time by using precut bell peppers and onions.
- It is about to be a family favorite: a perfect meal for you and your family on busy weeknights, Taco Tuesdays, or a lazy weekend.
- Healthy and light dinner: This protein-rich dish will keep you full and satisfied for longer. Shrimp is a low-calorie and high-protein food that can help you balance your meals throughout the week.
- Flavorful, versatile, and customizable: This recipe uses the best homemade taco seasoning, which you can adjust to your liking. Feel free to use storebought as well! I used bell peppers, which are the core ingredients in making classic fajitas, but you can play around with different vegetables you have on hand for added flavor and variety.
- Easy cleanup: All the cooking is done in one air fryer basket.
What you will need
Large or jumbo-sized shrimp: this will hold up well in the air fryer, and you will also not have to worry about overcooking it.
Taco seasoning: You probably wonder why I didn't use fajita seasoning. Fajita and taco seasoning have similar ingredients and can be used interchangeably, only that Taco seasoning is spicier than fajitas. I have both recipes on the website; do check them out.
Bell peppers: I used green and red bell peppers
Onion: I used brown onion, but you can use any type you like.
Olive oil: substitute with avocado or vegetable oil.

How to make air fryer shrimp fajitas
Cut the bell peppers and onions into thin slices and transfer to a bowl.
Clean and devein the shrimp and place them in another bowl
Drizzle olive oil on the peppers and onions, add 2 teaspoons of taco seasoning, salt, and black pepper, and mix to combine.
Add the peppers and onion to the air fryer basket and spread it out evenly. Cook at 360F / 180C for 5 minutes, shaking halfway through.
In the meantime, season the shrimp with the remaining taco seasoning, salt, and black pepper. After the first 5 minutes of cooking, stir the peppers and onions, then add the shrimp on the peppers and onions in a single layer. Cook for an additional 6 minutes, flipping the shrimp halfway through or until the shrimp is pink and cooked through.
Add chopped cilantro and green onions to the shrimp fajitas and stir to combine.
Serve hot with tortillas and your favorite toppings of choice, such as pico de Gallo, sour cream, and a squeeze of lime juice.

Fajita seasoning vs taco seasoning
Fajita seasoning and taco seasoning are often used interchangeably in recipes, but they have a few differences in terms of ingredients and flavor. Both condiments typically have chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
Taco seasoning is just spicier than fajita seasoning, and you will also find out that the flavor and heat level differ from brand to brand.
How to store
This dish is best served fresh, as shrimp can be rubbery and chewy when overcooked, which can happen during the reheating process.
However, if you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Serve cold with salad or reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop until warmed through.
Variations
- Swap shrimp with chicken, beef, or tofu for a different protein option.
- Instead of using traditional tortillas, use lettuce wraps for a low-carb option.
- Adjust the seasonings to your liking.
