    Instant pot taco meat using homemade taco seasoning. The taco meat was flavourful and utterly delicious. The whole prep and cooking process was less than 20 minutes. Serve this ground beef with tacos, burritos, salad bowl and more.

    Let me show you how to make this simple pressure cooker taco meat using this step by step guide.

    This instant pot taco meat recipe is now one of my family's favourite, in fact, my daughter loves this so much she urges me to make it all the time. I wasn’t surprised when she wrote that her best meal is her mummy’s burrito and it is divine! I sure had a bit of a proud moment. Who says you need a Tuesday to make tacos? With this taco meat recipe, you would be swooned!

    Taco meat can be used in a burrito as I love to eat it, I made burrito bowl with this ground beef, added it to a wrap for simple lunch and sometimes to a salad. It doesn’t end there, you can also make this taco meat into Bolognese sauce and pair with your spaghetti. Not forgetting jacket potato (Recipe coming soon) and it’s delicious in enchiladas too.

    Why this instant pot taco meat recipe is so good

    It is a quick and really easy dish that makes a perfect weeknight dinner or lunch

    This instant pot taco meat only takes 8 minutes of pressure cooking, it can be done for less, but I love mine tender and I find the flavour infuses more this way.

    The taco seasoning marries the ground beef so well and produces the most delicious tasting dish.

    This recipe only uses a few ingredients and doesn’t require endless prep, you literally need 5 minutes to prep this dish.

    You can use frozen ground beef and you would still achieve the same result as you would with fresh ground beef. This recipe works well with ground turkey, can you see why it is the best? More importantly, you can do a dump and go with this recipe, skip the saute business and come back to a delicious melting ground beef taco after 10 minutes.

    Taco meat recipe can be doubled and stored for later. It freezes well and stores well for a few days in the fridge too

    Don’t have homemade taco seasoning, feel free to use your favourite packet seasoning.

    This is a perfect recipe for an instant pot newbie.

    Ingredients For Instant Pot Taco Meat

    Ground beef; Substitute with ground turkey

    Homemade taco seasoning or taco seasoning packet

    Tomato sauce

    Beef bouillon: this is optional but since I didn’t use salt in this recipe why not.

    Salt: skip this if using bouillon.

    Chopped onions

    Olive oil: use any flavourless oil of choice

    How to make Instant pot taco Meat

    First, you turn on your instant pot to the sauté function, add oil and heat until hot, add the chopped onions to the hot oil and sauté until soft and translucent.

    Add the ground beef to the sautéed onion and Cook until Brown. Followed by the taco seasoning, beef bouillon and stir to combine. Cover with the tomato sauce and stir to combine.

    Secure the lid of the instant pot and turn the valve to sealing position. Cook meat at high pressure for 8 minutes and once it is done, do 5 minutes natural release or quick release if in a hurry. Carefully open the lid and stir the meat, serve as desired.

    Note: if there seems to be a lot of liquid in the meat, use the sauté function to let the liquid steam off. Stir continuously to avoid burning the taco meat.

    What To Serve With Taco Meat

    I served mine as taco bowl and it included guacamole, Instant pot basmati rice, salsa, lettuce, homemade pinto beans. Alternatively, serve as a proper taco with any toppings of choice.  As I mentioned above, there are several ways to serve and use leftover taco meat, I will list few below

    Taco (hard or soft-shell taco)

    Ground beef enchiladas

    Baked potatoes

    With spaghetti

    In a burger

    Burrito

    Add to soups

    Make breakfast burrito or taco meat scrambled egg

    How to store leftover taco meat

    Instant pot taco meat can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days in an airtight container and up to 3 months in the freezer.

    Equipment

    • Instant Pot

    Ingredients
      

    • 500 g ground beef about 1.1lb
    • 1½ tablespoons homemade taco seasoning or 1 taco seasoning packet
    • ¾ cup tomato sauce
    • ½ teaspoon beef bouillon
    • Salt to taste skip this if using bouillon.
    • ⅓ cup chopped onions
    • 1 tablespoon Olive oil or use any flavourless oil of choice

    Instructions
     

    • First, you turn on your instant pot to the sauté function, add oil and heat until hot, add the chopped onions to the hot oil and sauté until soft and translucent.
    • Add the ground beef to the sautéed onion and Cook until Brown. Followed by the taco seasoning, beef bouillon and stir to combine. Decant excess oil from browned beef is need be then cover with the tomato sauce and stir to combine.
    • Secure the lid of the instant pot and turn the valve to sealing position. Cook ground beef at high pressure for 8 minutes and once it is done, do 5 minutes natural release or quick release if in a hurry. Carefully open the lid and stir the meat, serve as desired.
    • Note: if there seems to be a lot of liquid in the meat, use the sauté function to let the liquid boil off. Stir continuously to avoid burning the taco meat.
