Pantry staples ingredients: Rice is a staple that is available in many homes and loved by many and oh, who doesn’t love garlic? Whether fresh or dried, garlic is a must-staple ingredient in every kitchen.

What you will need

To make this delicious and filling rice dish, you will need the following simple ingredients.

  • Long-grain basmati rice: I used golden sella basmati rice, substitute with pure basmati rice, brown rice or jasmine rice. Make sure to adjust the cooking time accordingly.
  • Fresh garlic: for this recipe, it is best to use fresh garlic, you wouldn’t get the same flavor if you used garlic granules.
  • Olive oil: this is used to saute the garlic, this can be substituted with butter.
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh parsley
  • Water: substitute with low-sodium vegetable or chicken stock. For the type of the rice used for this recipe, you will need a 1 1/2:1 water-to-rice ratio.

Variations

Make garlic butter rice: make this using my stovetop garlic butter rice recipe following the instant pot instructions above.

Garlic lemon rice: Add freshly squeezed lemon juice and zest to the rice while it is still hot for a delicious zing flavor.

Coconut garlic rice: substitute the broth or water for coconut milk (not coconut water) for that fragrant and creamy texture. Follow my instant pot coconut rice recipe to make this variation.

Spicy garlic rice: add a pinch of red chili flakes or as your heart desired to the oil when sautéing the garlic.

How to store and reheat rice

Leftover garlic rice can be stored in the fridge for up to 4 days in an airtight container.

To reheat, simply microwave for 60 seconds to 2 minutes (depending on the quantity) or until pipping hot. Alternatively, you can also reheat the rice on the stovetop over medium-low heat. Add about 2 tablespoons to a cup of cooked rice and warm until the rice is piping hot.
