Garlic butter rice recipe (Perfectly seasoned rice)

White rice is a blank canvas and can be boring if not well seasoned especially if all you do is eat it plain every time. Todays recipe is all about taking the boring out of plain white rice to fancy.  If you are looking for a way flavour white rice, then this garlic butter rice recipe is for you.

It is a good way of making your everyday rice taste good and fancy. A perfect side dish to any protein of choice. I love the simplicity of this dish and the fact that all the ingredients used are basic everyday ingredients.

Who doesn’t love garlic or butter? This buttery garlic rice is so good I eat it plain as it is. You can adjust the amount of garlic and butter used in this recipe to suit your taste.

Do you love garlic and butter in recipes? Then try my garlic bread recipe. and pan fried garlic butter cod. Packed full of flavour from fresh garlic, parsley, and lots of butter.

Ingredient you will need to make this recipe

Uncooked rice, I used easy cook basmati rice but you may use any other type of rice you have on hand. If using brown rice, please note that the cooking time would be different from the stated in this recipe.

    olive oil

    Fresh garlic

Butter: I used salted butter but can also use unsalted butter, if using salted butter check before adding more salt to the rice.

Chopped green onions: I used this for an extra boost in flavour, feel free to leave it out if you want.

    Salt to taste

How to make garlic butter rice

Rinse the rice until the water runs clear, drain and set aside.

Place a pan on medium heat, add olive oil and leave until hot. Add chopped garlic and sautee until soft, then add butter and swirl until melted

Add the washed rice and toast the rice for two minutes, stirring constantly so it doesn’t stick to the pan.

Pour vegetable broth or broth into the rice and mix to combine. Add salt to taste and place the lid on the pan and continue to cook on low heat for about 15 minutes. Check the rice for doneness, don’t be in a haste to add water is the rice is dry at this point, taste it and check if it is soft enough for you.

After 15 minutes, add chopped green onions to the rice, stir to combine and continue to cook for another 5 minutes.

Turn off the heat (there shouldn’t be any water left in the rice at this point) and leave the rice to stand for at least 5 minutes before serving. Fluff up the rice with a fork and serve as desired.

What to serve garlic butter rice with

This simple flavoured butter rice recipe is a great side dish that goes with anything, everything. I served mine with this delicious cilantro lime chicken, easy baked salmon in foil or this honey garlic salmon. Other ways to serve this recipe is with honey garlic pork chops or honey sriracha wings.

    Tips and variation

    • This recipe is exceptionally good with kale or spinach, so don’t hesitate to add it to your rice about 5 minutes before you take it off the heat.
    • Swap the fresh garlic cloves for garlic granules or garlic powder. Adjust garlic to suit your taste. Make it more garlicky or less
    • Make this seasoned rice recipe vegan by using vegan butter. Make it buttery to suit you but please don't overdo it or the rice would be greasy.
    • Swap chopped green onions for freshly chopped parsley.
    • Stir in some veggies in this flavoured and seasoned rice to bulk it up

Pressure cooker rice and chicken, not exactly vegetarian because of the chicken but the season in the rice is so perfect you don't want to miss out on it.
