How to make pasta with bacon and peas

Making pasta with bacon and peas is very straightforward. Here are the simple steps you need to follow to make this dish.

Start by boiling the pasta in salted water according to package instructions. Drain and reserve some pasta water!

While the pasta is boiling, place a skillet over medium-high heat, once the pan is hot add diced bacon (or lardons) and spread it out in the pan. Cook the bacon until crisp and then remove it from the pan with a slotted spoon, and set it aside on a paper towel-lined plate.

To the same pan, (reduce the bacon grease if need be) add diced onion and garlic, and sauté until softened.

Next, add reserved pasta water to the sauteed aromatics and deglaze the pan at the same time whilst stirring the pan.

Add cream cheese, parmesan cheese, chili flakes, lemon pepper seasoning, and black pepper to the pan and stir to combine. Add frozen peas and cooked bacon (reserve come to serve) and continue to cook for another minute.

At this point, the pasta should be cooked by now, drain the pasta and add it to the creamy sauce and toss until combined. Serve the pasta and sprinkle parmesan cheese on it with the reserved bacon and squeeze of lemon. Enjoy!

    How to store and reheat

This bacon and pea pasta can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat by adding it to a pan over medium heat until warmed through. You may need to add a splash of water or milk to get the creaminess back. You can also reheat in the microwave until warmed through.

    Tips

    • Swap bacon for lardons or use pre-cooked bacon if you prefer.
    • Freeze the bacon for a few minutes so that it is easier to cut with a sharp knife or use a kitchen shear instead.
    • Omit the cream cheese completely if you prefer
    • This recipe used up to 2 cups of frozen peas, you can adjust it to your liking
    • Use any seasoning and herbs of choice
    • Grate the parmesan cheese yourself for a better flavor.
    • There is no need to fry the bacon in olive oil as the bacon fat is enough to cook the pasta in.
    • If you are not a fan of peas, feel free to use any other vegetables like
