Equipment

  • Instant pot pressure cooker
  • Steamer basket

Ingredients

  • 1 broccoli head about 4 cups
  • 1 cup water
  • Salt and ground black pepper to season
  • Grated parmesan cheese: this is optional optional

Instructions

  • Cut off the broccoli stem and cut out the florets. Make them the same sizes if you can manage so they cook evenly. Add the broccoli florets to a bowl or colander and rinse clean with cold water.
  • Add water to the IP inner pot and place the trivet in it if that is what you would be using and carefully add the florets on the trivet making sure it is not touching the bottom of the inner pot. If using a steamer basket, place the florets in the basket and place over the trivet in the instant pot
  • Turn on the instant pot, select manual or high pressure and set the timer to 0 minutes. It would look like this 00:00. Lock the lid securely and set the valve to sealing.
  • Remember no cooking time here, the instant pot would only build to pressure and beep. Carefully do a quick pressure release. Open the lid of the instant pot and carefully remove the steamer or use a thong to remove the broccoli if you used the trivet.
  • season the steamed broccoli with salt and ground pepper and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese if using. Serve with any main dish of choice.

Notes

  • For this instant pot steamed broccoli recipe, you do not want to do natural pressure release (NPR). For crunchy broccoli, zero minute and QPR (Quick pressure release) if you want it softer then cook for  1 minute then QPR.
  • Don’t leave it in the instant pot after cooking or it would continue cooking and that result into a soggy mess.
  • Store in the refridgerator for up to 3 days in an airtight container
  • Season the steamed broccoli with herbs and spices as you wish. you may also drizzle with some melted butter or olive oil.
