    What is broccolini

Maybe just like me you only know of broccoli and you may be wondering what this dark green vegetable is. Broccolini is a cross between broccoli and Chinese broccoli. It is a very new vegetable that has been on the market since the early 1990s.

This dark green vegetable looks like asparagus (thin stalk) but tastes more and looks like baby broccoli. It can be eaten raw or cooked as you would with other vegetables, it is delicious and packed full of flavor. Broccolini is also known as broccolette or baby broccoli.

    Broccolini

    Olive oil

    Butter

Garlic granules and onion granules: I bet you are surprised I am using dried aromatics, trust me, it works perfectly for this recipe. That said, feel free to substitute with fresh onions and garlic, make sure to saute it until soft before adding the vegetable.

How to make sauteed broccolini on the stovetop

Wash the broccolini clean under running water, pat it dry with a kitchen paper towel until completely dry, and trim off the ends (about 1 inch off)

Heat olive oil and butter in a skillet on medium-low heat until the butter is melted and oil hot. Add broccolini and saute for about 3 minutes, turning occasionally so it doesn't burn.

Season with garlic granules, onion granules, salt, and black pepper, and stir and cook for another 30 seconds.

Carefully add water, stir to combine, and cover the pan with a lid, reduce the heat and cook the broccolini for an additional 1-2 minutes or until tender-crisp.

Take it off the heat and serve immediately with salmon, chicken, pork, or as desired. You can sprinkle some grated parmesan, red pepper flakes, lemon zest, or lemon juice on the sauteed broccolini if you want, for some extra va-va-voom.

    Health benefits of broccolini

I am sure it would come as no surprise to you of the health benefits of eating broccolini. Broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, bok choy are all cruciferous vegetables and they have many fantastic health benefits.

Broccolini is no exception because it contains sulforaphane which tells your body to produce more enzymes that are known to protect you against cancer.

There are antioxidants in the broccolini that can protect your body against free radicals and it's also packed with vitamin A, C, K, B1.

One of the good things about broccolini is that you can eat it raw and makes a perfect addition to a crudite platter. If you are on a diet this is one vegetable that will give you many health benefits for consuming slightly fewer calories.
