Prep the chicken by removing any unwanted fat from it then transfer it to a Ziploc bag or a bowl. Season with salt and black pepper, add chopped garlic then pour the Italian dressing over the chicken. Alternatively, you can pour the marinade all over the chicken in the bowl and using a wooden spoon or spatula stir until everything is evenly coated.

Marinate for at least 30 minutes up to 12 hours in the fridge. If you would be marinating for just 30 minutes then it is ok to place it on the countertop provided the chicken has not been out of the fridge for up to 2 hours.

How long to cook chicken breast in the oven at 400F varies depending on the thickness of the chicken breast. Generally large chicken breast may take an average of 20-25 m minutes to bake at 400F.

However, a smaller or medium-sized chicken breast may take up to 15-20 minutes to cook in the oven or until it registers an optimal internal temperature of 165F/74C is registered.

It is highly recommended to use a meat thermometer for accuracy when baking chicken and other meats in the oven to prevent overcooking.

    Tips

    • To prevent overcooking, always test the internal temperature of the chicken at least 5 minutes before the cooking time specified for accuracy.
    • Pound the chicken with a meat mallet to make even sizes and that will help the chicken cook evenly and prevent the smaller ones from drying out.
    • Let the marinade do its work by marinating your chicken for at least 30 minutes up to 12 hours in the fridge for a delicious Italian dressing flavor.
    • For an even juicier result, you can baste the chicken once while baking with some of the resting juice from the baking dish.
    • Do not reuse any remaining marinade that was used to marinate the chicken, discard it immediately after removing the chicken from it.
