    Baked Furikake Salmon Recipe

    This baked furikake salmon with mayonnaise recipe is simple, quick, and easy to make. This dish comes together in like 15 minutes. You can get dinner to the table in 15 minutes. While this fish is baking in the oven or air fryer, you can boil rice in an instant pot as well.

    This Japanese-inspired fish recipe is packed full of umami flavor and it's super healthy. Salmon is packed with protein and omega-3 fatty acids and is low in calories. The furikake adds an extra dose of vitamins and minerals.

    You only need a handful of ingredients to make this simple fish dinner. Not forgetting the star of today's recipe which is undoubtedly the furikake seasoning mix, It is healthy and savory yet it adds a great depth of flavor to the salmon. Even your pickiest eaters will love it.

    This recipe is so straightforward that, after you give it a try once, you'll never need to refer back to the instructions again. Feel free to use as little or as much furikake and mayo on your salmon depending on your desired taste!

    What is furikake

    Furikake pronounced 'furi-carki' is a Japanese condiment that is sprinkled over rice dishes, salads, vegetables, or anything you would like to give a little extra flavor and crunch. It is typically made with dried seaweed, roasted black and white sesame seeds, chili flakes, and dried fish flakes.

    Do I need kewpie mayonnaise to make this recipe

    No, you do not need to use kewpie mayonnaise to make this recipe. You can use regular mayonnaise and that is what I am using today.

    Ingredients

    Salmon fillets: substitute with trout, it has a similar flavor profile to salmon

    Mayonnaise: I used full fat for maximum flavor, you can substitute with low fat mayo.

    Furikake seasoning: I got mine from amazon and it is made with wild Dulse seaweed.

    Fresh garlic

    Salt and black pepper

    How to make baked furikake salmon

    Prep: Bring the salmon out of the fridge for about 15-30 minutes so it comes to room temperature. cut the salmon into fillets if you haven't already and you can also cook the whole side if you prefer. Pat the salmon dry with a kitchen paper towel and preheat the oven to 200C/400F

    To a small bowl, add mayonnaise, and minced garlic and mix to combine.

    Lightly spray a rimmed baking dish with cooking oil and place the salmon fillets inside.

    Season the salmon with salt and black pepper, divide the mayo-garlic mixture evenly over each piece of salmon, and spread it out to cover the top of the fish.

    Sprinkle the furikake seasoning over each salmon fillet and spread it out evenly.

    Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the fish is cooked through. Take it out of the oven and serve. Enjoy!

    Air fryer furikake salmon instructions

    Follow the prepping and seasoning steps above.

    Preheat the air fryer to 200C/400F for 3-5 minutes.

    Carefully place the salmon fillets in the air fryer basket and air fry for 7-8 minutes or until the internal temperature registers 120F/50C.

    How to store

    Cooked salmon can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

    Leftovers can be eaten cold with salad, or sandwich, or reheated in the microwave or air fryer.
